    A\u00a0protocol\u00a0is a system of rules that allows two or more entities of a\u00a0communications system\u00a0to transmit\u00a0information. Some internet protocols include IP, HTTPS, and DNS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    For blockchains, it allows nodes<\/a> to communicate information, building a distributed database<\/a> of a system's ins and outs. Databases are the backbone of a blockchain and permit the exchange of digital currency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Protocols allow decentralization within a system, setting the rules for how a system is governed and maintained through consensus. All nodes agree upon the rules which include a process for validating transactions, a mechanism for nodes to communicate, and an application programming interface (API) to integrate all of the features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Every protocol defines rules specific to the goals of the system.     eBay is considering the introduction of cryptocurrencies as a payment option according to CEO Jamie Iannone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    eBay is aiming to be the go-to platform for Gen-Z and millennials. Iannone stated<\/a> in an interview that Gen-Z is a \"priority target for the platform.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Iannone believes eBay is \"a place where people have something to sell and people have something buy show up.\" The rise in cryptocurrency's popularity has made several online platforms accept it as payment. With its focus on capturing millennials, eBay aims to do the same, and better align with their customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
